L’institut d’apprentissage technique et de formations complémentaires(TAFE)HOLMESGLEN,deChadstone,a fièrement participé à la conception d’un engin sécuriséqui est désormais en première ligne pour remporter un grand nombre de prix. L’équipe de la section Verre et Vitragede l’institutHolmesglen a assisté un chiropracteur de Melbourne dansla conception d’une unité de transport et d’installation de vitrages –lauréate du Prix Spécial de l’Invention de l’Année en 2004. De fabrication australienne, leQuattroliftsNomad 200 est désormais prêt à entrer en lice pour leVictorianWorksafeAward et l’EngineersAustraliaAward, et il est en bonne place pour les remporter.
Mis sur le marché en 2005, le QuattroliftsNomad 200 a été conçu par Rick Carlei, dans le but d’optimiser la sécurité des manœuvreset de révolutionner la manière dont les vitriersvont transporter et installer les vitrages. « QuattroliftsNomad 200 permet aux vitriers de transporter et d’installer des plaques de verre de 200kg avec seulement 2 opérateurs, une tâche qui s’effectue habituellement avec 6 opérateurs »explique M.Carlei. Tout au long de sa carrière, M.Carleia été témoin d’un nombre conséquent de paralysies musculaires et de lacérationssur des professionnels du vitragerésultantde la manutention de centaines de kilos de vitredans les usines et sur les chantiers. Selon lui : « Certains ne pourront plus travailler. »
En 2003, M.Carleia contacté Alan Reidy, chef du département Verre et Vitragede l’institut de TAFE, Holmesglen, pour évaluer son idée. Les bénéfices découlant de l’amélioration de la sécuritédes ouvriersétaient évidentset l’institut a collaboré étroitement avec M.Carleipour l’aider à concevoir un prototype. « C’était un plaisir pour nous de fournir des conseils surles considérations à prendre en compte lors de l’installation d’un vitrage. L’installation des vitres a été une des préoccupations majeuresdansla conception duQuattroliftsNomad 200 et nous avons aidé Rick en lui montrant les astuces du métier »déclare M. Reidy. Le programme d’apprentissage du métier de vitrier duTAFE inclut désormais leQuattroliftsNomad 200,dans le cadre de son module de formation à l’échelle nationale. Ce programme vise à s’assurer que les apprentis vitriers soient formés sur la manière d’utiliser leQuattroliftsNomad 200 efficacement.
La formation des apprentis sur l’utilisation du QuattroliftsNomad 200 et la promotion de son usage dans l’industrie vitrière peut réduire considérablement les risques de blessures corporelles. Cet engin fournit une alternative sécurisée pour les entreprises dans un contexte où l’on voit l’accroissement de la prise de conscience et del’attention portée sur les problèmes liés à la Santé et la Sécurité au Travail. Holmesglen est le seul fournisseur d’apprentis vitriers à Victoria, avec à son actif 180 apprentiset 120 étudiants à temps partielsqui effectuent un niveau de formation parun an. Selon M. Reidy : « Dans le cadre de cette alliance, Holmesglen fournit à la clientèle 4 heures de formation sur l’utilisation adéquate du QuattroliftsNomad 200. »Cela renforce les liens entre l’industrie et Holmesglen, qui est reconnu comme le leader des formations et du développement des entreprises à Victoria. Le développement des produits se poursuitet il est actuellement centré sur le besoin de faire pivoter des plaques de verrede l’horizontale à la verticale. Sans l’assistance deQuattroliftsNomad 200, c’était une tâche difficile à réaliser.
